Top Ayurveda Tips for Weight Loss

Ayurveda and especially Patanjali Ayurveda is the hot topic these days. My experience tells me that we become focussed on Ayurveda whenever there is some uncontrollable virus affecting the country, just like this time it is Corona Virus or COVID-19. Incidentally, it so happens that whenever I start looking for Ayurvedic remedies for Corona Virus, somehow the search leads me to weight loss diets or immunity-boosting diets. Today I am going to give the crux of whatever I have understood as top Ayurveda tips for weight loss.

ayurveda tips for weight loss

Stress is considered as one of the most significant causes of weight gain, and we get more and more stressed in bashing ourselves for our weight gain and also during the process of losing weight. Basically, to be away from stress and unending cycle of losing weight and keeping it off, we need a time tested path to walk on. Isn’t it! Here comes the Ayurvedic diet which is the only constant way to lose unwanted weight without getting into any relapse and restart the lose – gain cycle again.

Here are the top Ayurvedic tips that can naturally lead you towards holistic and healthy weight loss, without any extreme diets.

Top Ayurveda Tips for Weight Loss

  1. Drink a large glass of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning. This helps to boost the digestive system and readies you for the day.

  2. As a daily morning practice for healthy weight loss; 30 to 45or 60 minutes of exercising is important. It must be enough to break a sweat is suggested is ideal.                                                                                                                                  yoga

  3. Since Ayurveda is considered the sister of Yoga, so 10 to 15 minutes of peace and relaxation related to mind and body practices like yoga or meditation in the morning is suggested. This helps to alleviate stress which is one of the main causes of weight gain.

  4. Ayurveda suggests eating three meals a day, without any snacking. It suggests having a medium meal as breakfast, between 7:30 and 9:00 am. As per Ayurveda lunch should be your largest meal, between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Like any other diet system, Ayurveda also suggests having dinner, as the smallest meal, between 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm.

  5. Experience all six tastes as Ayurveda recognizes six tastes which are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. It advises adding all six tastes into our daily diet.  Why it is suggested will be part of our next post on the Ayurvedic diet. So stay connected.

  6. Move around after each meal is the key to weight loss. Walking around the house after each meal helps in stimulating digestion. It’s most important to go for a walk after lunch, preferably 10 to 20 minutes at a moderate pace. To further aid in digestion, lie on your left side after walking for 10 minutes is advised in Ayurveda. You can read about it in our previous post here…

  7. Sleeping for seven to nine hours of sleep at night gives the body time to reset for the next day. That also helps maintain healthy levels of cortisol which is a stress-response hormone that causes weight gain.

These are the basic eight steps that can profoundly affect our lives. Though the most important step is to accept yourself as you are so that you can maintain sanity and not create more stress. Leading a disciplined life based on the above-mentioned steps will surely lead your path to a healthier version of yourself. It is perfectly fine taking baby steps to ease the transition from unhealthy to healthy.
